When to come
October to March
Cool mornings, warm days, almost no rain. Kartik (October and November) and the Holi weeks (February and March) are the high seasons; book rooms early.
April to June
Over 40°C by afternoon in May and June. Do darshan at 5 AM, rest from noon to 5 PM while Shriji is shut anyway, and go back up after dark.
July to September
The monsoon brings 80 percent of the year's rain, green hills and fewer people, except for Radha Ashtami, when lakhs come in the humid heat.
What the weather means on the ground
- Fog, December and January. Dense fog sits on the Delhi to Agra highway at night and in the early morning. Drive in daylight.
- Heat, May and June. The stone steps get hot by mid morning and shoes come off at the temple. Carry water and a cap; take the ropeway if the climb is too much.
- Rain, July to September. Lanes and the parikrama path get muddy and the steps slippery. Sandals with grip, a light umbrella.
- Holi, March. Pleasant at around 30°C, but you will be in a crowd for hours. Water and a cap matter more than a jacket.
